Well, lets see what might happen in the future: Characters felt more real in the early seasons and as time went by, they became caricatures of themselves with less depth. For the first couple of seasons the show was well written, Homer was dumb but he wasn't just dumb and he had his relatable moments, Lisa was a smart know it all but wasn't just that, Flanders (flanderization comes from his name) was an upstanding religious neighbor and now he is just a religious fanatic, and so on. Flanderization is what happens to characters in long running shows, it is a process where well thought out, three dimensional characters become one dimensional over time because one of their traits keeps getting more and more exaggerated (due to lazy writing), in the end it changes the characters' dynamic and the feel of the show. Now that Rick and Morty are about to go ten seasons long, there comes a real danger of flanderization.
